But it will get worse, with snow and ice in the forecast for late Friday night.
The low temperature overnight into Friday morning was about 7 degrees, with wind chills between zero and 5.
It will be mostly sunny but chilly Friday, with a high near 22 and wind chill values of -5 to 5 degrees across Fairfield County.
And then the snow will move in late, mainly after midnight. Temperature will rise to about 24 degrees by 5 a.m. Saturday, but with wind chills of 10 to 15. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible by morning.
The pre-dawn snow and ice will make a mess for motorists with slippery travel across the region.
By late Saturday morning, the precipitation will change to a snow, freezing rain and sleet mix before 11 a.m. A messy mixture will continue until after 1 p.m., when it changes over to all rain with rising temperatures.
The area could see another 2 to 4 inches of new snow before the rain begins.
The light rain will continue into Sunday, with an overnight low of about 44 degrees rising to about 50 by midday.
The sun will come out again on Monday, with a high near 30 degrees.
