Man Rescued After Being Stranded In Long Island Sound For Hours Officers rescued a jet ski operator who had been stranded in the Long Island Sound for about three hours. At about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, a friend of the 60-year-old man notified the United States Coast Guard that the man was more than three hours overdue to return to Rocky Point, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.  SCPD said a police helicopter responded just before 7 p.m. and located the jet ski floating in the water with no occupant.  SCPD officers Michael Malone and Shawn Mooney responded onboard the Marine Delta and found the man about a quarte…

NY Man Accused Of Scamming Investors Of Over $700K A New York man has been accused of scamming investors of more than $700,000 over the past year and a half, authorities announced. Long Island resident Matthew Gallagher, age 37, of Rocky Point, used investment schemes in fraudulent startup business ventures and insurance-related frauds to scam 16 victims between November 2019 and April 2021, according to an investigation by Suffolk County Police. Nearly Two Dozen Modell's Stores Slated For Closure With online shopping leading to the demise of many traditional brick-and-mortar retailers, Modell’s Sporting Goods announced it will be closing nearly two dozen East Coast stores in an attempt to save the entire company.
