Metro-North Announces New Safety Improvements, Positive Train Control
The MTA has taken steps to ensure the safety of Metro-North riders. Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi announced that “Positive Train Control” has been extended to cover nearly 90 percent of the Hudson Line. All Hudson Line trains, including Amtrak and CSX, are now operating in Positive Train Control for the 67 miles between Marble Hill and Poughkeepsie. Metro-North Service Changes, Buses Scheduled During Danbury Branch Upgrades
Buses will be replacing trains for some Metro-North riders in Fairfield County next week. The MTA announced that beginning on Monday, Oct. 1, through Friday, Oct. 5, crews will be making safety upgrades and improvements to the Danbury Metro-North Branch. In response, buses will be substituting for select, off-peak weekday trains. Between 9 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. each day, buses will substitute for all trains departing from Danbury to South Norwalk southbound, making all scheduled stops to South Norwalk. Metro-North Must Give Timeline For Train Control, Blumenthal Says
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, wrote to Metro-North Railroad on Monday, April 23 after Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi reportedly announced two months of “slippage” in the railroad’s timeline to fully implement federally-mandated positive train control.
