CT Woman Runs NYC Marathon For Son, Others Affected By Rare Condition Diane Owens never used to like running. In fact, she was vocal about it.  But that all changed after her son was diagnosed with a rare condition.  Nine years and many marathons, half-marathons, and 5K races later, she hasn't stopped pushing forward. Owens is originally from Bethpage on Long Island, before later moving to Connecticut as a child. She now lives in Southbury, in New Haven County. John W. Timbers died at home on Thursday, May 23. He was 76. Timbers was born in Brooklyn in 1942 to Charlotte T. Timbers and the Hon. William H. Timbers who later served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Timbers graduated from Darien High School in 1960 and from Dartmouth College in 1964, after which he attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland as a Rotary Scholar.  After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1968, he clerked for…

Gusty Winds Knock Out Power To Hundreds In Area Sustained gusty winds have resulted in hundreds of residents losing power Saturday in the area. At 4 p.m.,  328 are without power in Newtown, the hardest hit town in Fairfield County. Other outage totals are: Monroe (214), New Canaan (161), Greenwich (141), Danbury (136), Stamford (120), Norwalk (82) and Ridgefield (44), according to Eversource. Orange and Fairfield has the most outages in the area serviced by United Illuminating with 36 and 19, respectively.
