Mother's Day was special for the Wilton White fourth-grade boys lacrosse team. With their moms cheering from the sideline, Wilton fought hard for a 4-3 overtime win over Ridgefield Orange. Wilton took an early first quarter lead on a goal by Ryan Schriber. Despite excellent play by goalie Andrew Calabrese, who had nine saves, Ridgefield scored three unanswered goals as Wilton played short defensive players because of penalties.
Wilton's defense, led by Max Colburn, Ethan Grandolfo, Tyler Previte, Billy Ronk and Reilly Bingaman, worked tirelessly in the second half to keep Ridgefield scoreless. Wilton's offense came to life as Dean DiNanno scored in the third and fourth quarters with assists from Cole Barnes to tie the score, 3-3.
In the first period of sudden-death overtime, Ryan Schriber scored the winning goal on a well-placed pass from Zach Rossi to cap off an exciting game.
After the game, coach Brian Colburn gave the each player a flower to present to their mom to thank them for sharing their special day and for all of the yearlong support.
