Wilton Wahoos Win 26th Straight State Title

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Y Wahoos won their 26th straight YMCA state swimming championship with strong performances in each of the age groups.

Top swimmers for Wilton in the 8-and-under age group were Hailey Looney, who placed 10th in the 100 individual medley, Avery Newcomber, ninth in the 25 breast, and Rory Hess, fourth in the 25 fly and 11th in the 50 free.  Other swimmers who participated in this age group were Emily Bukoski, Elizabeth Copley, Whitney Hess and Annabel Pennino.

9/10 group: Sophia Sudano placed fifth in the 50 back, 11th in the 100 fly and 12th in the 50 free.  Nathaniel Snyder placed seventh in the 50 back and 12th in the 100 IM.  Richard Nolan won the 100 breast and placed fourth in the 100 back.  Taylor Loud placed fifth in both the 100 back and 100 breast and seventh in the 100 IM.  Lily Kealy placed 12th in the 100 fly.  Eleanor Imrie placed 11th in the 100 breast.  Emma Babashak placed second in the 50 fly, seventh in the 100 back and ninth in the 100 free.  Julianna Hume placed 10th in the 100 back and 11th in the 100 fly.  Caroline Hess placed 10th in the 100 breast.  Morgan Dill placed eighth in the 50 back and 11th in both the 50 free and 100 free.  Other swimmers competing in this category were George Andrew, Arisa Cowe, Ellie Cramer, Jack Cramer, Caroline Crampton, Catherine Crampton, Leila Hastings, Ellen Holmquist, Anna Imrie, Julia Morneu, Nathan Newcomer, Madeline Pennino, Rita Roberts, Mattias Schaller and Annika Srivastava.  

11/12 group: Allie Batter placed eighth in the 50 back.  Emma Kaufeld won the 100 free, placed second in the 200 free and fourth in the 200 IM.  Norl Nolan placed ninth in the 50 breast.  William Suchy placed second in the 100 back, third in the 50 fly and fourth in the 200 free.  Albert Wei placed 11th in the 50 breast.  Jason Xie placed ninth in the 50 breast.  Stephanie Xie placed fifth in the 50 fly, 10th in the 50 back and 12th in the 50 free.  Jackson Dill placed 11th in the 50 fly.  Robert Giller placed third in both the 50 free and the 100 free and ninth in the 100 fly.  Jack Lewis placed third in the 100 breast and seventh in the 200 IM.  Ryan Looney placed seventh in the 50 breast and 12th in the 50 fly.  Matthew Martin placed 10th in the 200 free.  Kyle Wilson won the 50 back, placed second in the 50 breast and fifth in the 50 fly.  Other swimmers who participated were Julie Berhar, Chloe Hornby, Cameron Imrie, Brooke Kelly, Walter Kress, Grace Schaller, Kennedy Snyder, Emily Walden, Jason Cai, Sinclaire Higgins and Simon Lindberg.

13/14 group: Courtney Gilroy won the 200 breast, placed third in the 100 breast, fourth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 100 free and 10th in the 200 IM.  Lindsey Cooney placed fourth in the 100 breast and eighth in the  200 breast.  Brooke Hendee placed second in both the 100 breast and 200 breast, fourth in the 200 IM, seventh in the 400 IM and ninth in the 100 free.  Maggie Kaufeld placed fourth in the 200 fly, sixth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 400 IM.  Julia Lewis placed eighth in the 100 breast and 400 IM, 10th in the 200 breast and 11th in the 200 back.  Maddy Srivastava placed eighth in the 200 back and 10th in the 100 back.  Other swimmers competing in this category were Megan Lafond, Lillian Chang, Margaret Collias, Catherine Cunungham, Savannah Driscoll, Samantha Florio, Shannon Golden, Ashely Li, KellyAnn O'Donell, Andrea Prospect, Evaline Xie and Katrina Trentos.

15/over group: Stephanie Moriarty won the 100 fly, placed seventh in both the 50 free and 200 free and eighth in the 100 free.  Grace Hendee placed third in the 100 free, fifth in the 50 free eighth in both the 200 free and 500 free and 10th in the 100 back.  Other competitors in this category were Hanna Armstrong, Caroline Cozzens, Melanie Gedney, Jack Abbott, Max Bloom, Callum Breene, Albert Cui, James Damon, Daniel Hernandez, Sean Higgins, Stephen Holmquist, Christopher Hume, Tommy Kealy, Daiel Xie, Bobby McDowell, Mace Molina, Christy Smith, Caroline O'Brien, Kim Green and Sarah Hynes.

The Wahoos will host Spring tryout sessions at 6 p.m. on March 19 and 20. Tryouts are open to all interested swimmers.
