Wilton Wahoos Finish 9th at Nationals

WILTON, Conn. — The Wilton Y Wahoos finished ninth in the combined team standings and led all Connecticut teams with 417 points at the Short Course National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

This year, 83 teams participated. The Wahoo's finished eighth out of 61 in the men's division (261) and 10th out of 56 in the women's division (187).

Eric Ronda of Greenwich won the men's 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.82. He also placed second in the 100 breast (55.79), fifth in the 400 individual medley (3:59.40) and eighth in the 500 free (4:33.23).  

Other Wahoos who earned top 30 individual finishes were: 

? Verity Abel of Westport, who had a great meet by placing eighth in the 1650 (1:52.17), 11th in the 1000 free (4:46.94), 19th in the 200 free (10:09.47) and 24th in the 500 free (16:56.42).

? Jordan Berger of Weston touched 13th in the 100 breast (57.74), 17th in the 400 IM (4:05.09) and 18th in both the 200 breast (2:05.73) and the 200 IM (1:52.78).

? Nathaniel Boley of Westport had nice swims to place 19th in both the 100 back (51.84) and the 200 back (1:52.53) and 28th in the 200 free (1:42.96).

?Cody Bond of Oxford came in 27th place in the 1650 free with a time of 16:26.84.

? Olivia Clark of Weston placed 20th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:24.51.

? Sam DeLise of Easton had a strong finish and dropped 4 seconds to place 12th in the 400 IM (4:01.92).

? Max Dolan of Southbury had a great meet to place 10th in the 400 IM (4:05.84), 16th in the 100 fly (50.77), 21st in the 200 IM (1:52.92) and 26th in the 200 fly (1:54.76).

? Sean Higgins of Wilton scored points and finished 12th in the 200 fly (1:51.83), 22nd in the 400 IM (4:04.33) and 29th in the 500 free (4:40.81).

? Stephen Holmquist of Wilton dropped 10 seconds to place 25th in the 1000 free (9:43.96) and 26th in the 1650 free (16:24.61).

? Maggie Kauffeld of Wilton swam to a 29th place finish in the 1650 free (17:43.91).

? Katie Luchansky of Trumbull finished in 10th place in the 100 free (51.32), 12th in the 200 free (1:50.31) and 19th in the 500 free (4:58.82).

? Matt Moen of Brookfield had a great meet, placing seventh in the 1650 free (15:42.49), eighth in the 1000 free (9:26.74), 20th in the 400 IM (4:08.02) and 24th in the 500 free (4:39.06).

? Morgan Scarth of Redding swam to a 25th place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 17:24.86.

? Maddy Smart of Brookfield scored points and finished sixth in the 500 free (4:52.28) and 22nd in the 100 free (51.37).

? Alyssa Storino of Trumbull had a strong finish and dropped 5 seconds to place 10th in the 200 breast (2:21.15) and 24th in the 100 breast (1:06.13).

? Women's 800 free relay of Luchansky, Abel, Hendee and Smart placed 4th (3:26.69).

? Women's 400 free relay of Luchansky, Abel, Hendee and Smart placed 7th (3:26.69).

? Women's 200 free relay of Luchansky, O'Brien, Abel and Smart placed 12th (91:35.76).

? Women's 400 medley relay of Moriarty, Storino, Luchnasky and Smart placed 13th (3:53.06).

? Men's 400 medley relay of Boley, Ronda, Dolan and Kealy place 7th (3:56.21).

? Men's 200 medley relay of Boley, Ronda, Dolan and Kealy place 12th (1:35.53).

? Men's 400 free relay of Boley, Higgins, Kealy and Ronda place 12th (3:08.24).

? Men's 800 free relay of Boley, Dolan, Higgins and Ronda place 14th (6:54.48).

? Men's 200 free relay of Dolan, Boley, Ronda and Kealy placed 15th (1:26.20).

The Wahoos also saw some great individual performances from Brandon Cole, Caitlin Cole, Jasmine Cooper, Grace Hendee, Tommy Kealy, Stephanie Moriarty, Caroline O'Brien and Jourdan Stewart.
