WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s Molly Frear and her teammates on the Varsity Four women's crew at the University of Virginia were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after winning the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup last weekend at the San Diego Classic.

Frear is a junior who attended Hopkins School. The Cavaliers are ranked No. 1 in the nation in women’s rowing, and a large contingent of area women are on the UVA roster.

Other rowers from Fairfield County at Virginia include Darien’s Emily Crump and Emily Pik, Greenwich’s Cristine Candland, Hunter Terry and Paige Terry, Westport’s Lizzy Youngling, Weston’s Brittany Wengel, and Betsy and Mary Nilan of Milford, who formerly rowed for coach Liz Trond of the Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club. Alissa Hornung, a senior from Weston who now competes for CBC, will attend Virginia in the fall.
