Wilton Boys Swim to Fourth at State Meet

The Wilton High School boys swim team had its work cut out for it in Wednesday's Class M swim finals after a disappointing qualifying meet Saturday. The young group of Warriors placed only two swimmers in three championship events. Strong finishes in the consolation races and a second place finish in the diving finals by Daniel Schott (409.45 points) lifted Wilton to a fourth place finish at the meet with 336 points.

Sophomore Jack Winslow grabbed the best finish for the Warriors, finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time 54.24 seconds. Sophomore Sean Higgins was the only other Warrior who placed in a championship race, finishing sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (53.03) and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.70). Wilton raced just one senior and two juniors, relying on a freshman- and sophomore-laden team.

Wilton took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay consolation final (1:42.40) and 400-yard freestyle relay consolation final (3:23.27). Lone senior Timothy Lattmer won the 200-yard individual medley consolation final with a time of 1:57.37, which would have placed him in second in the championship final. Lattmer also finished first in the consolation final of the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.21).

Wilton is ranked 16th overall entering Saturday's state open to be held at Yale at 2:30 p.m.
