Wilton 7th Grade Girls Fall to Tough Rivals

WILTON, Conn. - The Wilton seventh-grade girls team lost two games over the weekend to a pair of tough teams in the Fairfield County Basketball League.

Wilton, sponsored by the Wilton Bank, dropped a 60-29 decision to Norwalk on Saturday. Elizabeth Healy led Wilton with nine points, three steals and one rebound. Caylin Cannavino scored six points and grabbed five rebounds. Margaret Smith (two points, one rebound) and Melanie Turza (two points, one rebound) did a great job getting the ball up court and keeping the plays moving.

Haley Meyers made a strong showing scoring five points from both inside and outside the paint. Ava Martinelli added to the offense scoring three points and grabbing four rebounds. 

On Sunday the girls faced an equally strong St. Mary's of Ridgefield team and dropped a 49-31 decisions.

Cannavino had a strong showing scoring 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds with Nina Mellin (five points, one steal, four rebounds) and Elizabeth Healy (six points, two steals, one rebound) following. Ava Martinelli (four points, one steal, three rebounds) played strong all around scoring and hustling throughout the game. 

Wilton finishes the regular season 11-9 overall and 7-7 in the tough A Division of the league. It finished third in the regular season behind St. Mary's and Norwalk. It will now await the league tournament in March.
