Tennis Event Helps Breast Cancer Group

Lake Club members and guests raised more than $3,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at Thursday's Play for P.I.N.K. tennis fundraiser.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical and translational research worldwide. In the past year, more than 88 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation went directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs.

The Play for P.I.N.K. organization was established in the early 1990s by a group of women with a goal of doing something significant for a friend undergoing treatments for breast cancer, and at the same time, help all women afflicted with the disease. The group initiated the Play for P.I.N.K. foundation, whose premise stands for prevention, immediate diagnosis, new technology and knowledge. It is dedicated to raising funds through different sporting and lifestyle events.

Committee members are, from left, Cathy Ratcliffe, Lelei Coyle, Lake Club Director of Tennis Berend van Toor, Sheila Lillis and Julie Hughes.
