Lake Club Ladies Win Tennis Title

The Lake Club Ladies' Division 1 tennis team captured the Fairfield County Women's Tennis League championship. Division 1 is the highest level in the league and is primarily made up of USTA 4.0-4.5 ranked players. The Lake Club's squad consists of 14 A level players from Wilton, New Canaan and Fairfield. The Lake Club went 8-1 in its nine matches and edged Stamford Yacht Club and Millbrook Club, each of whom went 7-2.

"Our team did a great job this season encouraging each other, practicing together and playing tenaciously in very competitive matches. Everyone is extremely pleased to win the division championship in a league with many talented players," Captain Karen Lourd said.

Founded in 1968, FCWTL is comprised of nine competitive divisions with 88 participating teams fielded by 29 tennis facilities throughout Fairfield County. Approximately 1,500 players are rostered throughout the nine divisions.

The team is coached by the Lake Club's Director of Tennis Berend van Toor and Ladies' Team Coordinator Ray Azagar. A family club since 1958, the Lake Club is located on the Wilton-New Canaan border.
