Wilton Schools To Remain Closed Monday And Tuesday

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton Public Schools will remain closed on Monday as town and utility crews work to restore power lost during Hurricane Sandy.

The Wilton Emergency Management Office made the announcement at noon Sunday, citing the interest of safety for students.

Classes will not be held on Tuesday as well because of Election Day, though the school buildings that will be used as polling stations will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

The message did not indicate whether schools will be open on Wednesday.

Wilton officials said power restoration progress is being made as 1,600 residences had power restored on Saturday. About 45 percent of the town’s Connecticut Light and Power customers are still without power, officials said. Twenty-six line crews, 15 tree crews, five pole setting crews and six service crews, plus four Wilton Public Works crews are working in Wilton today.
