The tutoring is not a job — The Learning Fund is run by volunteers. But it's not free. Ninety-percent of the parents pay the suggested donation of $30 per hour, but 90 percent of that money goes to charity, said Andrew.
In exchange, kids receive tutoring in math, English, reading, and writing, French and Spanish.
The balance pays for materials, gas and the website, said Addie Tanzman, one of the tutors and Andrew's friend.
She loved the idea and signed on along with a dozen or more honor roll students right away.
The tutors offer the service to kids in kindergarten to eighth grade.
For Addie, it's a rewarding way to share her knowledge of math and other subjects and watch a child's confidence grow, she told Daily Voice.
"It helps charities, too, like PAWS, Best Buddies, and Kick for Nick," she said.
Math comes naturally to Addie.
"My mother teaches math at the high school so I've seen how she teaches. One of the girls I tutor is getting better grades and doing well in her classes. It feels good," said Addie.
"We also have students fluent in Spanish and French and can tutor kids in study skills."
