Wilton Girl's Voice Lights Up School Concert

Wilton seventh-grader Marisa Manuel can always be heard singing – no matter the season. Her mother can confirm this, she says. “My mom can never shut me up,” Marisa says, smiling.

But because of all the other activities she’s involved in, Marisa rarely gets a chance to perform on stage. So it was important to her that she join the seventh-grade chorus at Middlebrook School. Making her experience with the chorus even more special, she was one of the few featured soloists during “The Chanukah Song (We Are Lights)” at Wednesday night’s seventh-grade Winter Concert and Art Exhibit.

Even though she was confident in her abilities, she was nervous trying out for the solo part because she had a cold that day and didn’t feel well.  After getting the part  her nerves calmed and even singing in front of more than  650 people in the Middlebrook auditorium did not shake her.

“I do better in front of people,” Marisa said, explaining that she likes to impress others.

“The Chanukah Song (We Are Lights)” was one of four holiday songs chorus teacher Janet Nobles had her students perform. The chorus wrapped up the performances part of the evening, preluded by the orchestra, stage band and jazz combo, and the band.
