Hats Off to Wilton's Student Fundraisers

WILTON, Conn. – Students at Cider Mill Elementary School took in more than $1,000 for the Wilton Fuel Fund during a recent Hats for Heat fundraiser.

Cider Mill’s Student Activity Group organized the school-wide event. Wearing hats is normally not allowed in school; however, the kids were allowed to wear them for just one day to help raise money.

The suggested donation was a dollar, but many students and families contributed more to the fundraiser.

Students donned all types of hats, from baseball caps to fedoras to hats that looked like animals. Even a cheeseburger hat was spotted in one classroom. The students had fun and were proud to help a worthwhile local charity, a press release said.

Two years ago, the school held a similar fundraiser, Hats for Haiti, where the donations were sent to the Haitian earthquake relief effort. This year’s fundraiser will provide assistance for Wilton families that need help paying for heating fuel.
