Class of 2010 Graduates from WHS

Wilton High School held its graduation ceremony last night, waving goodbye to the Class of 2010.  The ceremony brought many family members and friends to the school’s football field to send their loved one’s on to the next stage of their lives.

Before presenting the Class of 2010 to the superintendent, Principal Tim Canty shared his feelings about the class of 2010.  Over the past few years, he explained,  rain threatened to make it necessary to move the graduation inside. About yesterday, he said, he had no such worries.

“The class of 2010 has brought sunshine to Wilton High School for the past four years, why should today be any different?,” Canty said.

The graduation speaker, Kristina Harvey, who teaches English at the high school, also described what the graduating class meant to her, “Because of you I choose to believe in the good in people.”

Harvey also advised the class that no matter what is going on in their lives they should always remember to press “pause” and remember the three qualities she believes define the class.  The traits she referred to were courage, the ability to listen and have a conversation, and to always find the humor in life.

With two students both achieving perfect 4.0 grade point averages over the past four years, the high school had to name co- Valedictorians. They were U.S. Presidential Scholar Sarah Gustafson and CAPS/ Superintendent’s Award winner Shwetha Raghuraman.

Both addressed fellow classmates and offered advice for future success. Instead of staying away from clichés Raghuraman decided to embrace them and told her fellow graduates, “If at first you don’t succeed try, try again,” and “Stop and smell the roses.” Gustafson spoke about believing in yourself and the advantages it can bring. “We must believe in ourselves to direct our next step,” Gustafson said.

After the ceremony the Class of 2010 received many “congratulations,” picked up their diplomas, and officially ended their high school careers. To see what the immediate future holds for each graduate go to "Graduates Plan for their Future"
