WILTON, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The Wilton Daily Voice is counting down some of the top stories of the year.

Wilton’s representation in the General Assembly remained in Republican hands as GOP incumbents Toni Boucher and Gail Lavielle won new terms in the November elections.

Boucher won a third term to serve in the state’s 26th Senate District by defeating Democratic challenger Carolanne Curry. Boucher was first elected in 2008 after serving as state representative in the 143rd District for 12 years. The 26th Senate District includes Wilton, Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston and Westport.

Lavielle won a second term as representative of the 143rd House District, defeating Democratic challenger and Wilton Selectman Ted Hoffstatter. Lavielle had previously served on the Wilton Board of Finance. Lavielle’s district includes Wilton, East Norwalk and a portion of Westport.

Wilton will also be represented by a Republican in the 125th House District as New Canaan Town Council member Tom O’Dea won the race to succeed the retiring Rep. John Hetherington. O’Dea defeated Democrat Mark Robbins and Green Party candidate David Bedell.  The 125th District covers Wilton and New Canaan.
