WILTON, Conn. -- An 18-year-old has been charged in connection with the Aug. 31 attack during a scavenger hunt by Ridgefield High School students that ended in a melee on Wilton High School's football field and a Ridgefield student sent to hospital.

Charged with second-degree breach of peace is Martynas Zoruba, 18, of 18 Indian Hill Road. He turned himself into police on Tuesday after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 25. It is the first arrest in the case.

Lt. Stephen Brennan said Zoruba is accused of punching a Ridgefield resident in the head during the fight. The fight was sparked after some Ridgefield High School students staged a scavenger hunt that allegedly included a dare to urinate on their rival's football field. Wilton students had found out about the hunt through social media and confronted the Ridgefield students, police said.

Brennan said Zoruba, who he said is a Wilton High School student, was cooperative in the investigation including giving a full statement the day after the incident.

Brennan said that Wilton Police had asked for a warrant for third-degree assault but that the state's attorney's office decided it didn't rise to that level. The department has also handed over information on a group of what Brennan termed three to four students to the state's attorney's office. He said those individuals are all under the age of 18.

"They are reviewing all off the evidence at this time," said Brennan who added the information they have collected during the investigation is conflicting. "It is very difficult because no two stories corroborate each other. So what we are doing is presenting all the facts to the state's attorney and how they were presented to us by the different parties and they are making a determination on how they want to proceed."

The extent of the Ridgefield resident's injuries is unknown.
