David Lawrence MaGuire, 39, became irate and violent as he approached officers after he was stopped on Danbury Road at the Ridgefield border at 12:03 a.m. Tuesday, Wilton police said.
MaGuire threw his cellphone at the police car, then took a bicycle off a rack on the back of his car and pedaled away, police said. He then returned to scene, and fell off the bike onto the road, police said.
He became more violent and abusive while officers took him into custody, police said.
MaGuire refused to take sobriety tests at police headquarters, police said. Officers determined he had no driver's license, police said.
MaGuire was charged with driving without a license, interfering with police, disorderly conduct, bicyclist not staying to the right, driving under the influence and failure to keep right on a curve.
He was held on $7,500 bond and was due in court Tuesday morning.
