WILTON, Conn. — Four Stamford residents were charged with stealing seven bottles of liquor from Ancona’s Wine & Liquor on River Road in Wilton last weekend, police said.

Officers were called to the store Saturday night on a report that two women were seen stealing, the police report said. The manager had followed the women outside and saw them approach a white van, the report said. The woman then ran through the parking lot to avoid the manager, according to the report.

When officers arrived, they spotted the van “driving around suspiciously,” police said. While one of the officers approached the van— which was occupied by two males— the other found the women, the report said.

It was later determined that all four suspects knew one another and are believed to have traveled to the store together with the intent to steal, police said. Officers recovered three bottles of Grey Goose vodka, valued at $35 each; three bottles of Patron tequila, valued at $45 each; and one bottle of Ciroc vodka, valued at $35.

The suspects were identified as Vanity Melendez, 19; Elsie Alvarez, 28; Raymond Martinez, 30; and Angel Rodriguez, 19. Each was charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Melendez and Alvarez were also charged with sixth-degree larceny.

For providing officers with false identifying information during processing, Melendez was additionally charged with interfering with police. She was held on $500 bond, while the other three were released on promises to appear.

All four were scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 17.
