The incident began at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, when an officer stopped on Route 7 at Route 107 saw a vehicle with no lights on turn left onto Route 107, police said.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the motorist sped away eastbound in the wrong lane on Route 107, police said.
The car's speed reached 97 mph, according to the in-car video in the police cruiser as it traveled through Georgetown Center, police said.
The motorist then stopped by the Meadow Ridge Nursing Facility, police said.
The driver was a 17-year-old Redding resident, who had only a learner's permit, police said. The teen admitted taking the vehicle without his parents' consent and said he became scared, police said.
He was given a summons to appear in court on Sept. 16 on charges of reckless driving, failure to obey an officer's signal, driving without a proper instructor and speeding.
HIs name wasn't released due to his age.
