WILTON, Conn. -- A UPS driver from Norwalk was arrested for taking part in a scam where cell phones were fraudulently bought online and delivered to homes in Wilton without the homeowner's knowledge, according to police.

In April the Wilton Police Department received two separate complaints from residents of Tolland and Southington who were victims of identity theft. Police said the individuals' personal identifying information was used to buy cell phones online. The phones were then scheduled for delivery at various homes in Wilton unrelated to the victims and unbeknownst to the homeowners, police said.

Video surveillance at one of the homes showed 26-year-old Jonathon McClain of Norwalk, an employee of UPS, drove to the residence of a scheduled delivery. However, he never delivered a package, according to police.

After an investigation in cooperation with UPS, police determined that McClain was involved in a scheme where he was aware of these fraudulently purchased cell phones on his truck for deliver, which he would not deliver but would rather sell to third parties, according to police.

McClain was arrested on Thursday and charged with larceny and identity theft.
