Joseph Boccuzzi, 34, of 1 Maplewood Terrace, was charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree larceny in the Wilton case, police said.

The Fairfield County Bank located at 941 Danbury Road in the Georgetown section of Wilton was robbed at about 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, police said.

Officers responded and determined that a man had entered the bank and demanded cash, police said. No weapon was visible and no threats were made, police said. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled in a green 1997 Honda Accord, which was abandoned and recovered a short distance from the bank, police said.

Police determined the car had recently been purchased on the website “Letgo,” which led them to identify Boccuzzi as the suspect.

Boccuzzi was interviewed and subsequently confessed to committing the bank robbery in Wilton, police said.

He also confessed to committing three additional bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery at other banks in Fairfield County, police said.

Boccuzzi was held on $150,000 bond on the Wilton charges and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday, April 17.

Police earlier said the same suspect in the Wilton bank robbery had attempted to rob the People's United Bank on Old Post Road in Southport on Wednesday, Feb. 22 but arrived after it closed. He was wearing a mask and gloves and carrying a duffle bag and was trying to enter the bank, which was locked. Employees told him the bank was closed and called the police after he ran off.

The arrest is a result of a collaboration among the Wilton, Fairfield, Stamford, and Norwalk police departments, police said.
