A 27-year-old man has turned himself in and is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing and trying to cash a check from a residential mailbox in Wilton worth $5,000.
Wilton Police say Edwin McCray of Springfield, Massachusetts stole a check from a residential mailbox on Monday, Sept. 24. The information on the check was forged due to the intention to defraud the victim of $5,000.
The investigation that followed the incident revealed McCray on video surveillance depositing the check into his personal bank account at a bank in Springfield, which helped to identify the suspect.
McCray was charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery. He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
