At around 11 p.m. on Friday police pulled over a car on Danbury Road in Wilton due a headlight being out and an expired registration, police said. While speaking to the driver, 38-year-old Thomas Smith of East Haven, police discovered that he had several narcotic pills in a plastic tube in his pocket, according to police.
Smith said that the pills were prescribed to him, but he was unable to produce an original container, according to police. Police searched the car and found a small plastic pebble-shaped object in the center console with a white powder in it, police said. The substance later tested positive for MDPV, or bath salts, according to police.
The original pills that were not in their container were later found to be legally prescribed to Smith, but he was still arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and illegal storage of narcotics. Bond was set at $2,500 and he was given a court date of May 11.
