Sr. Mary Aneta Gics, 86, Member Of School Sisters Of Notre Dame In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. - Sister Mary Aneta Gics, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Wilton, died Saturday, June 14. She was 86.

Sr. Gics was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Joseph and Anna (Kuhar) Gics, both natives of Austria-Hungary. After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1947, she began teaching at St. Teresa School in Washington, D.C. She taught at Catholic schools in New York and New Jersey, and worked in pastoral care at St. Joseph Medical Center in Stamford and Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton. She also assisted in the development office at Villa Notre Dame and was on the staff of Mother Caroline Academy in Massachusetts and Hope Rural School in Florida. She retired to Villa Notre Dame in 2010 and moved to Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton in 2012.

Sr. Gics is survived by her sister, Cecilia Force (Donald) of Brooklyn; brother, Joseph Gics (Lorraine) of the Bronx, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews; grandnieces, and grandnephews; relatives and friends; and by the community of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 16, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
