Sister Ruth Stahl, 83, Of Wilton

WILTON, Conn. - Sister Ruth Stahl, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died May 5. She was 83.

Sr. Stahl was born Sept.15, 1930, in Irvington, N.J., daughter of Harry and Mary Louise (Rebstock) Stahl. After pronouncing her vows as a school sister of Notre Dame in 1951, she began teaching at St. Michael School in Rochester, N.Y. She taught in Catholic Schools in New Jersey and New York. She also taught at Holy Family School in Fairfield. After retiring in 2002 and moving to Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, she volunteered as a tutor for two years at St. Aloysius School in nearby New Canaan. She moved to Lourdes Health Care Center in 2010.

Sr. Stahl is survived by a sister, Mary Stahl Bell, of Manchester, N.J.; brother, William Stahl (Kathleen), of Warren, N.J.; sister-in-law, Judie Stahl, of Bridgewater, N.J.; many nieces and nephews;cousins and their families; and her community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Calling hours are Tuesday, May 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel, Conn.
