Mary Ellen Uhrig Offinger, 85, Of Wilton

WILTON, Conn. - Mary Ellen Uhrig Offinger of Wilton died Tuesday, March 19. She was 85.

Offinger was born in Canton, Ohio; daughter of Herbert and Helen Tuller Uhrig. Her family moved to Brooklyn when she was two years old. In 1943 her family relocated to Norwalk. She was a graduate of Norwalk High School Class of 1946.

Following graduation, she was employed by the Connecticut National Bank in South Norwalk until 1950 when she married and moved to Chestnut Hill Road. Offinger served as the business manager for her husband’s metallurgical company, BeeHive Heatreating Co. in South Norwalk.

She was a member of the Wilton Congregational Church where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a Girl Scout leader, member of the Park Street Singers, the Cannon Grange, Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at Norwalk Hospital for 28  years.

Offinger is survived by her husband, Adrian; children, Catherine A. Offinger of Falmouth, Mass., Donald A. Offinger of Norwalk and Hank Offinger (Maureen) of New York City, N.Y.; sister, Lillian Schoch of Florida;  brother, Herbert Uhrig of Georgia; three grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Helen Platt of Colorado.

A Memorial Service will be held April 20 at 2 p.m. in Wilton Congregational Church, Wilton.
