Wilton resident Enrique "Rick" Garcia, owner of Rick Garcia Salon in Westport, died May 14. He was 64.
Garcia was born Aug. 9, 1946, in Havana, Cuba, and has lived in Wilton for the past 25 years. More than 20 years ago, he founded Rick Garcia Salon at 293 Post Road E. His sons, Justan E. Garcia and Alex K. Garcia, both of Wilton, will continue to manage the business.
Before opening the salon, he worked at a number of New York City salons and was a freelance stylist for magazine and film productions, as well as the style director for Paul Mitchell Superhair Salon. Outside of his work, Garcia was an avid golfer and hunter.
During the Vietnam War, Garcia served as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He was presented with two Purple Heart medals for his service.
In addition to his two sons, Garcia is survived by his mother, Maria Luisa Herrera Garcia of Milford, Pa.; three sisters, Maria Delmo and her husband Anthony of Milford, Pa., Nidia Garcia Schiano and Virginia Alfonso of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will hold a private memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice.
