Wilton to Remember Vets' Sacrifice

Wilton residents will gather today for the town's annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony. “It is a time to reflect upon what’s been going on in America and who it is keeping it safe for us,” said Albert Wood, who was a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. from 1943-45. 

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 21 River Road in Wilton Center and finish at Hillside Cemetery on Ridgefield Road, where the ceremony will take place. The grand marshal for the parade is Lt. Clark Robinson, who served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. The keynote speaker at the ceremony will be  Mike Lindberg, who has resided in Wilton for the past 27 years and graduated from the Naval Academy and later joined the Marines. Lindberg's father served in WWII.

At Hillside Cemetery 356 flags, one for each veteran buried there, will be flying. The ceremony will conclude with the reading of the names of the Wilton veterans who have died in that last year. A bell will be rung for each one,the Wilton Militia will offer a gun salute and the flag being raised. “It’s the best we can do on this particular day,” Wood said of the events.
