Wilton Hopes to Bring Yankee Gas to Town Center

WILTON, Conn. – In the next few days, First Selectman William Brennan expects to finalize a deal to extend Yankee Gas' pipeline to the town's municipal center and its schools. The move would allow the town to reduce heating costs in its buildings, the first selectman said.

"We are discussing an agreement with Yankee Gas," Brennan said at this week's Board of Selectmen meeting. "I had hoped to have it by now. But we are getting good vibes from them."

Brennan recently met with Yankee's President Rodney Powell at the company's headquarters in Berlin. He said the two agreed the project would benefit both parties.

Yankee Gas already serves part of Wilton but would like the ability to add additional customers.

"We are the only town in their franchise that does not have gas in its center," said Brennan.

Brennan hopes the town and Yankee Gas can reach an agreement before mid-July. That way, installation of the gas line could take place in conjunction with upcoming roadwork planned for the center.

"We'd like to break ground in mid-July," said Brennan. "It would be a great advantage to us. We won't have to tear up the road again."
