The Wilton Farmers' Market will be a lot easier to find this year. And it will be in a far more quaint setting.
Organizers are expecting the weekly outdoor market, which kicks off its third season Wednesday, May 25, on the grounds of the Wilton Historical Society, to draw more shoppers in its new, more visible location along Route 7.
During its first two years, the market was located in a rear parking lot at the Wilton Libraryin Wilton Center but with not nearly as much traffic as along Route 7, organizers said.
The market will be open every Wednesday through Sept. 28 at the Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road. Hours are 2 to 6 p.m.
"It turned out the library grounds were not an ideal location, because many people didn't know we were even back there," said Catherine Romer, this year's market manager and one of the nearly dozen vendors.
Romer, a Wilton producer of handmade Nod Hill Soap, said everyone involved in the market this year is excited about the new site.
"Being at the Historical Society we will be much more visible for drivers coming home from work, and others just passing by," she said.
Supported by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, Wilton Historical Society and Wilton Library, the market is a venue where shoppers can buy high-quality products from local farmers and artisans. The market will feature local produce, baked goods, soaps and teas.
"The the new location is hard to beat," said Wilton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torie Clancy. "With the stalls dotted in and around the historic mid-19th century red Abbott barn in the background, the herb garden, and the water pump, it's a superb backdrop for an outdoor market," Clancy said. "This location will provide greater exposure for our farmers and provide a lovely setting for prospective shoppers."
