Police Seek Wilton Copper Thieves

WILTON, Conn. – Police are hunting for the thieves who stole copper gutters from two Wilton homes last week.

The owner of an East Meadow Road residence called police Friday, July 1, to report that sometime between Tuesday, June 28, and Friday morning, copper gutters and downspouts were taken from the home's first floor. Police estimate the value of the copper gutters at $500.

Police responded to a second incident on Chestnut Hill Road on Saturday, July 2. According to Lt. Donald Wakeman, an individual reported seeing a white male, possibly in his 20s, removing copper gutters from the Chestnut Hill home around 4 p.m. on Friday.

"They said they saw a man carrying something," said Wakeman. "But he dropped what he had and got into a black vehicle and left."

The thief made off with about $500 worth of copper, police said.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Wilton Police Department at (203) 834-6260.
