Oven Fire Doused at Wilton Restaurant

The Wilton Fire Department received a call around 6:20 a.m. Monday morning about smoke coming from a window at Portofino’s Restaurant on Center St.  According to Fire Marshall David Kohn, responding firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

“The guys got a good jump on it,” Kohn said.

According to Kohn, the fire started in one of the pizza ovens. Tony Ramadani, the owner of Portofino’s, said he had no idea how the fire started as he waited in Connecticut Coffee in mid-afternoon for firefighters and a representative from the state fire marshal’s office to finish their investigation.

“This is the worst gift to get right before Christmas,” Ramadani said.

The owner also said he is trying to make the best of the situation and he wants to reopen as soon as possible.

According to Wilton Fire Department’s Deputry Chief Mark Amatrudo they will not have the actual results of their investigation for about a month.  Amatrudo said it usually takes a few days to complete the investigation and a number of weeks to get results from anything they may have tested.
