WILTON, Conn. Margaret "Peg" Kunkel Ploss, a longtime New Canaan resident, died Aug. 30 after a fight with cancer.
Ploss was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Clifton Springs, N.Y. She was known for her love of music, the outdoors, the theater and children.
Ploss held sort of a dual citizenship between New Canaan and Wilton.
In New Canaan, she was known for her work with kids at The YMCA while her husband, the late Richard M. Ploss, was on staff there. After joining the Methodist church, she became active in the Children's Service Circle, making friends she kept for the remainder of her life. At The Day Care Center of New Canaan, she was known as Peg to over 20 years' worth of students in the afterschool program. Finally, she served as an instructional aide for the science department at New Canaan High School for 20 years.
In Wilton, she was known first as the receptionist for the late Dr. David Franklin, then as a regular at The Village Luncheonette. As a longtime member of the Wilton Presbyterian Church, she participated in both the choir and the bell choir. She was active at The Wilton Playshop, both onstage (once) and backstage, finally serving as president.
Ploss was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Lee Kunkel. She is survived by her brothers, Dr. Robert Kunkel Jr., Dr. Alan Kunkel and Dr. Frederick Kunkel; her daughter, Wendy Hower and her husband, Robert, of New Canaan; her sons, Richard "Skip" E. Ploss and his wife. Laura, and daughter, Sarah, of Wilton, and Scott T. Ploss and his wife, Dennise Traeger, of Ashland, Ore., and their children, Dan and Katie.
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Wilton Presbyterian Church, 48 New Canaan Road, Wilton.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that donations be made in her name to: The Wilton Playshop, P.O.
