Ambler Farm opened its doors to Wilton residents Saturday night for its Sixth Annual Summer Barbeque, and all who attended were treated to more than just dinner. There was also a moonlit hayride, a silent auction -- and of course, a trebuchet launching watermelons the length of a football field.
But for the roughly 100 people present there were reasons to attend other than to help raise money or watch the trebuchet in action.
Anne Fitzpatrick lives close to Ambler and walks to the farm occasionally to enjoy the scenery. She was happy to be around others who felt the same. "To be at a celebration with people who have affection for a place like this is hard to find," Fitzpatrick said.
Supporting the farm was Barry Seigerman's main reason for coming out, but there was also the food. "The food is outstanding," he said. "You can't leave without having the apple pie."
The evening's theme was "A New England Summertime Supper," and the farm kept everything local, bringing in Chef Dan Kardos from Harvest Supper in New Canaan, a cellist and violinist from the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, and food donated by farms and other places in Connecticut.
