A Dominican national living in Fairfield County has been sentenced after illegally reentering the country and being busted for allegedly selling drugs.

Oliver Joan Ubiera Maleno, 36, a citizen of the Dominican Republic last known to be living in Danbury, was sentenced in Bridgeport district court to 16 months in prison, time already served, for reentering the United States after being deported.

In July 2002, Ubiera Maleno, who at the time was a legal, permanent resident of the country, was sentenced in federal court in Alaska to 37 months in prison for assessing with the intent to distribute a controlled substance. In December the following year, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing with intent to deliver 400 grams or more of cocaine.

Ubiera Maleno was deported to the Dominican Republic in August 2009 after he served the federal sentence and part of the state sentence in Texas.

On April 19 last year, Ubiera Maleno was arrested by officers with the Danbury Police Department for drug distribution, U.S. Attorney John Durham said. Ubiera Maleno has been detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry by a removed alien on May 1.

Durham noted that the state charges against Ubiera Maleno are still pending. Check Daily Voice for updates.
