$60K in Damages Done to Home

The home at 32 Charter Oak Drive, which is being renovated, sustained $60,000 in damages the night of Nov. 26 into the morning of Nov. 27 in a vandalism spree.

According to the Wilton Police Department, one ore more perpetrators used rocks to destroy two custom windows, two custom doors and two exterior lights. The furniture around the pool was thrown onto the cover of the built-in pool. Numerous holes were punched or kicked in to the sheetrock in the basement inside the house. A mirror, chandelier and lighting fixtures were broken. And bottles of Chivas Regal and Patron Silver Tequila were taken.

The residents are living elsewhere while the renovations are done. They told police they do not know of anyone looking to harm them.

Police say they had no suspects, and no evidence was left behind. The investigation remained open as they continued to search for the culprit.

Also in the police blotter:

? Ryan Cherniske, 27, of Bethel, was arrested Nov. 26 after he failed standard field sobriety tests when his vehicle was stopped on Route 7 near Station Road. Wilton police received reports that Cherniske's vehicle was traveling erratically. The arresting officer stopped him when he saw Cherniske was having difficulty staying in one lane.

He was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in one lane. Cherniske is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 6.
