WILTON, Conn. A half-million books will be donated in diverse places across the country as a part of World Book Night U.S. on April 23.
Wilton Library Executive Director Kathy Leeds will be one of the thousands of volunteers giving away books in places such as veterans hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, ballparks, mass transit hubs and diners, among others.
Leeds will be donating copies of one of her favorite books, "Little Bee," by Chris Cleave.
I am proud to be part of this first World Book Night in the U.S. Busy commuters generally dont have time to stop by and pick up books to read, so this is my way of getting the books to some new readers, Leeds said.
She will be at the Wilton Metro-North train station beginning at 4:15 p.m. April 23 for the evening commuters and will remain there until all the books are dispensed.
World Book Night U.S. is a campaign to give away a half-million free, specially printed books across America. It began in the United Kingdom and Ireland last year and was well-received. For more information about World Book Night, visit the campaigns website.
