The business portion of the meeting will cover the election of officers and new trustees, the acknowledgement of retiring board members and the presentation of awards to the Volunteer of the Year and Staff Member of the Year.

This year’s nominated slate of officers includes returning members Ann Duffy, president; Ileanna Barns-Slavin, secretary; and Robert Kelso, treasurer. Diane Wilson, a current trustee, is being nominated for vice president, replacing Glenn Hemmerle, who is retiring from the board.

Retiring board members are honored with books that will be placed in the collection with a nameplate acknowledging their service to the library.

Following the meeting, guest speaker Maureen Sullivan, former president of the American Library Association, will address attendees. Sullivan will speak about the role of libraries and their importance to the communities they support in her talk, “The Library’s Role in Ensuring a Thriving Community for All.”

Her career has included positions as the human resources administrator at two major research libraries, a consultant and trainer with the Association of Research Libraries, a member of the faculty in the managerial leadership in the information professions Ph.D. program at Simmons College, and in two of the annual institutes sponsored by the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

“As we enter our 120th year of service, Maureen’s talk is quite fitting for our celebration. We’re delighted to have such a widely recognized leader and advocate address this wonderful community,” said Elaine Tai-Lauria, executive director for Wilton Library.

A short reception will follow Sullivan’s talk. The annual meeting and reception are open to the public. Registration is encouraged. To register, visit the Wilton Library here and click “Events” or call 203-762-3950, ext. 239.

The Wilton Library is at 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton Center.
