More than 20 food and beverage vendors set up shop at Canon Grange Monday night for the Taste of Wilton III sponsored by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce. The event gives people from the area a chance to sample the vendors' wares and for suppliers to get exposures for themselves and their products.
"It supports the community and beats cooking tonight," Pat Helbach said with a grin. Pat and his wife, Suzanne, of Wilton were attending the taste fest for the first time and enjoying themselves as they made their way around the different stations.
While the Helbachs said they had been to most of the restaurants at the event, others, like Jack and Elaine Zakhar of Norwalk, had not and were looking for new places to try. "We're not finished looking around yet," Jack Zakhar said, "but I think we are going to try a few."
The tables ranged from local places like the Georgetown Saloon and Marianne Wilson's Complete Catering to nationally known places like Subway, and of course, the Taste of Wilton would not be complete without Elmer's All the Best Wines. The owner of Elmer's, Paul Flynn, came up with the idea to start Taste of Wilton three years ago and worked with the Chamber of Commerce to get the idea off the ground.
"I saw an opportunity to get many retailers to show off their goods as one whole group," Flynn said.
