Dan— a 2006 graduate of Wilton High School— met Whitney at Tufts College, and both graduated from there in 2010. According to a family friend, Dan proposed to her in January. The couple lives in Boston.
On Feb. 20, Whitney— a native of Truckee, Calif. — was hit by a car while out for an evening jog. She sustained severe head trauma, a broken left temporal bone, facial fractures, a compound fracture in her left leg, a blood clot in the left jugular vein and damage to the vertebral arteries. She has been in the hospital since the accident.
Not long after, friends of Dan's and Whitney’s launched the #FightHardy campaign to raise funds for Whitney’s medical costs and recovery.
“While the extent of her injuries and their lasting effects remain unknown, one certainty is that [Whitney] is in for a long, difficult road to recovery,” organizers say on the #FightHardy fundraising page. “The main objective of this effort is to help the Hardy and Stebbins families focus on what is most important, Whitney’s recovery.”
Funds raised will help cover medical bills, rehabilitation costs and living expenses.
