State Grant Helps Keep Historic Wilton Barns Standing

WILTON, Conn. – A $5,000 grant from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation will help the Wilton Congregational Church to sustain its barns.

The grant money will be given to the church for the Comstock Barns. This is the second time the barns have been a recipient of the Barn Grant. This year, the money will go toward the repair of structural support beams and the installation of a new roof for the main barn.

The Comstock Barns are at Ridgefield and Belden Hill roads. Built in about 1850 to 1860 to serve the farming needs of the Comstock family, the barns were acquired by the church in 1962.

The grants are part of a historic preservation technical assistance and granting program of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, with money from the Community Investment Act of the State of Connecticut and the Connecticut General Assembly. The Barns Grant supports efforts to preserve iconic historic barns in the state.
