Butterflies To Raise Domestic Violence Awareness In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. -- Butterflies are set to take to flight Sunday in Wilton as a symbol for victims of domestic violence.

With October marking National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force and Wilton Teen PeaceWorks are hosting "The Wings of Hope Campaign," according to a news release. The campaign features a butterfly release at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, in Wilton Town Center.  

"Last year there were 96 reported incidents of domestic violence here in Wilton," according to the release. "It is our hope that members of the community will come together to honor the victims with a beautiful symbol of peace- the Butterfly."

Those wishing to sponsor a butterfly for the event can do so for $20 with proceeds donated to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford, according to the release. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Jennifer McNamara at jemcnamara@optonline.net.
