"It gets you going on the way to work in the morning. It's a nice little 'pick me up,' " said McArdle, who co-owns the Coffee Barn at 392 Danbury Road along with her aunt, Karen Piazza of South Salem, N.Y.
Monday was a big day at the Coffee Barn because it was National Coffee Day.
For McArdle, she and Piazza pinned their hopes on opening a coffee shop as a business.
"It was something that Karen and I had wanted to do for a while," she said. "We thought it would be fun, and we both love coffee."
They looked around and decided that Wilton would be the best location because they saw a niche they could fill.
"Wilton didn't have an independent coffee shop, and we are right across from the high school," she said.
They opened two-and-a-half years ago, and so far they have attracted a loyal clientele, McArdle said.
"Business has been really good, and we have a lot of repeat customers," she said.
Coffee is not only something to drink, it also brings people together, she said.
"It is a good way to get together with friends," she said.
National Coffee Day is a recent creation as coffee companies seek to promote consumption of the caffeinated beverage. Many outlets offered coffee deals on Monday or had deals leading up to Monday.
