WILTON, Conn. – A diversity of style and subject matter will highlight the Wilton Library’s September art exhibition, "5 Photographers 5 Styles."
The exhibition, which opens Friday night and continues through Sept. 27, features nearly 100 images by five photographers from Wilton and Norwalk. Most of the photographs on display will be available for purchase, with the proceeds benefiting Wilton Library.
The photographers – Vince Balzano, Rick Locke and Zita Mercurio from Wilton and Paul Wear and Dennis Hyde from Norwalk – are united by their passion for photography and are members of the Wilton Arts Council, yet their styles and perspectives are vastly different in how they produce their art.
“These professional photographers do a lot of behind-the-scenes work for WAC Focus exhibitions and I thought it was only fitting that they get to showcase their own talents,” Ed MacEwen, Wilton Library’s art chairman, said in a statement.
Balzano’s images are not always ‘beautiful’ in a traditional ‘postcard’ sense, but he strives to make each image cropped to achieve balance or unique perspective.
Locke’s photographs feature vivid colors, striking patterns and textures and unique images resulting from reflections off water or glass or by simply changing the perspective of his camera lens.
Mercurio sees in nature the elegance and simplicity of repeated patterns. Through the lens of her camera she tries to capture the beauty and artistry of the world around her.
Hyde likes to capture moments of humanity or glimpses of the natural world untouched by man.
Wear is a master of hidden composition; his images go through a metamorphosis that evolves over time in the “digital darkroom.”
The exhibit opens with a free reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, at the library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road. It will be open during library hours, which are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
