New Wilton Eatery Serves Farm-To-Table Fare

WILTON, Conn. – Farm-to-table dining has taken another step into the gourmet arena in Wilton. The town’s culinary newcomer, Bistro 7, joins one of Fairfield County’s favorite locavore destinations, the Schoolhouse at Cannondale, in serving dishes created with locally sourced, sustainably raised ingredients.

Inside the Danbury Road eatery, you’ll find a cozy, colorful dining room and bar. Colorful chalkboards tout the Bistro 7’s sustainable philosophy, while an exposed brick wall provides an unlikely canvas for a long row of wine bottles ringing the ceiling like a toy train for oenophiles.

But Bisto 7 isn’t just another pretty face. With Executive Chef Kris Grossman at the helm, the restaurant is poised to make its mark on the Fairfield County dining scene.

A recent lunch visit made for a yummy afternoon. Menu standouts were the chorizo empanadas, served with a house-made cilantro cream, and a beef carpaccio chimichurri. The brie, bacon and tomato sandwich on toasted baguette was tasty, too. You can add truffle fries to any order, which we couldn’t wait to do. But the kitchen was out of fries, so we were out of luck.

Other intriguing dishes are the vegan cauliflower steaks, served with artichoke-olive tomato ragout and harissa tomato sugo (sauce) as well as the sweet potato tacos, a vegetarian take on tacos, filled with spicy tofu, beans, veggies and cilantro cream.

Bistro 7 offers multiple beers on tap, including a summer 2012 favorite LaGunitas IPA. It also features a customer favorite beer selection every week, such as last week’s Brooklyn’s own Six Point Crisp Pilsner.

This farm-to-table spot is definitely worth a try, especially if you can get your hands on those elusive truffle fries.

Bistro 7 is located at 991 Danbury Road in Wilton.
