WILTON, Conn. – The vacant 20,000-square-foot former Borders bookstore in Wilton could have a new tenant in about a month, according to a leasing agent looking to fill the vacancy.

Companies are interested in leasing the former bookstore on Danbury Road as well as a nearby 13,000-square-foot former supermarket; said Steven Dudziek, senior leasing associate for Urstadt Biddle Properties.

“It should be coming soon now,” Dudziek said. “We’re hoping to make a deal in the next couple of weeks to a month. We have leases out, but it’s not finalized.”

Dudziek declined to say what business might fill the space, but he said there’s been “good traction” in terms of interest in the space. Some workers were inside the space Monday.

The Wilton Borders location closed two years ago when the book retailer filed for bankruptcy.

A new tenant would be a significant move for the area on the Norwalk border. Earlier this month, the owners of Little Pub announced they would open a second location on Danbury Road thanks the to the popularity of the original location in Ridgefield.
