Snuggle is the brand name of the fabric softener sold by Wilton-based Sun Products Corp. Company employees held a birthday party in his honor and also to celebrate a $10,000 donation by Sun Products to Make-A-Wish Connecticut.
Bibie Wu, vice president at 60 Danbury Road-based Sun Products, said Snuggle Bear is more than a just a marketing mascot.
“He represents a product that softens laundry but also represents a brand that softens people’s hearts,” she said. “His mission is to make the world a softer place, and we do that through our laundry products and bringing warm wishes and soft snuggles to people throughout the country.”
The company has been tied to Make-A-Wish since 2009 and has given Snuggle Bears to the organization to share with children.
“It is just another way we bring softness to the world,” Wu said.
The $10,000 donation will cover one wish in the Make-A-Wish program in Connecticut, said Pamela Keough, president and CEO of Trumbull-based Make-A-Wish Connecticut.
“It means that we will be able to grant one more wish than what we had originally budgeted for,” she said. It’s a welcome addition because the demands increase every year, she said.
In its last fiscal year, the organization had granted the wishes of 184 children – the most it has granted in a single year.
She praised Sun Products Corp. for its help through the years.
In addition to Snuggle, Sun Products is known for Sunlight and Wisk among other products.
Snuggle Bear was created by the late Kermit Love, a well-known puppeteer who helped to create Big Bird and worked with Jim Henson, creator of the "The Muppet Show."
